Telehealth Consent

Last Updated: [7/31/2025]

This Telehealth Consent outlines your rights and responsibilities when participating in therapy sessions conducted remotely through video or phone.

1. What Is Telehealth?

Telehealth allows you to receive mental health services via secure video conferencing or telephone rather than in person. Sessions are conducted in real time and are subject to the same standards of confidentiality and care as face-to-face sessions.

2. Benefits and Limitations

Benefits:

  • Increased accessibility and convenience

  • Reduced travel and wait time

  • Continuity of care during travel, illness, or other disruptions

Limitations:

  • Technical difficulties may interrupt or delay sessions

  • Not suitable for all clinical issues

  • Lack of physical presence may affect rapport for some individuals

3. Technology Used

Sessions are provided using HIPAA-compliant telehealth platforms. Clients are responsible for ensuring their own privacy on their end (e.g., choosing a quiet, private location and using secure internet).

4. Confidentiality and Security

All standard confidentiality protections apply. However, because telehealth uses technology, there is a risk of data breach or unintended access. We use secure, encrypted platforms to reduce this risk.

5. Emergency Protocols

Telehealth is not appropriate for crisis or emergency situations. In case of emergency, call 911 or the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline at 988. You will be asked to provide your location and emergency contact information at the start of your first session.

6. Client Responsibilities

  • Ensure you are located in Florida (or an approved state) at the time of your session.

  • Use a secure, private internet connection—not public Wi-Fi.

  • Inform your therapist of any technical or safety concerns.

7. Consent to Telehealth Services

By engaging in a telehealth session, you acknowledge:

  • You understand the benefits and limitations of telehealth

  • You have read and agreed to the terms of this consent

  • You have the right to withdraw consent at any time without affecting your right to future care
